Employer Update: New York State Pay Transparency Law

Oct 5, 2023

ALBANY, NY | As of September 17, 2023, New York State requires businesses with four or more employees to report pay ranges for specific job opportunities, promotions, and transfers. These ranges should contain the lowest and highest annual or hourly salary, as well as whether or not the role is commission-based.  This requirement applies to both internal and external job postings. Employers are also prohibited from retaliating against employees who discuss their pay with coworkers under the Act. This legislation underscores New York’s commitment to resolving wage inequities and encouraging openness in compensation systems, allowing employees to make more informed career decisions.
