Stuart A. Rosenthal (1951-2021)

Attorney

We regret to inform our colleagues, clients, and friends that the TLF family has lost an incredible asset to our team with the passing of Stuart A. Rosenthal, Esq.

On Monday, September 13, 2021, we were informed that Stuart passed away due to complications from an extremely unfortunate accident that occurred a few weeks ago in his home.

An of counsel attorney to the firm, Stuart focused his practice in Automobile Dealership Law and carried more than 35 years of experience that relates to the automotive retail business. Stuart was an exceptional asset to the firm, giving TLF a double edge sword in the automotive dealership law practice between the more than 70 decades of experience he and James Towne, Jr. hold together when combined.

Stuart acted as General Counsel and Vice President for Legal Affairs of the Greater New York Automobile Dealers Association (GNYADA) for nearly two decades; he played a key role in the Association’s many legal, legislative, and regulatory initiatives. Stuart served on the New York City Mayor’s Task Force on (Automobile) Insurance Rates, alongside the Commissioner of Consumer Affairs, the President of the BBB of NY, and leading insurance law practitioners. He was also a panel member on the U. S. Federal Trade Commission’s look into the future of Automotive Retailing, ‘The Road Ahead’ in 2011.

Opening his own law practice in 2014, Stuart went on to maintain his stellar reputation as a notable figure in the industry, providing dealers with the most up-to-date information on compliance, regulations, and legal issues, while creating the best and most practical solutions for them. Many of the industry’s leaders, as well as other attorneys had looked to him for his expertise in automotive dealership law.

Surviving Stuart are his wife Kathy, his two children Benjamin (Brooke) and Devorah, and grandchildren Parker and Lily.

We will miss our dear friend and colleague, who was a kind man and a great person. The automotive industry has lost a great asset.

On behalf of TLF, its attorneys and staff, our sincerest condolences go out to the Rosenthal family during this time.
