May 15, 2024

ALBANY, NY | At The Towne Law Firm, P.C., we are committed to fostering a workplace culture that champions diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI)throughout our entire organization. Recently, we had the privilege of engaging in enriching DEI training sessions led by Kathleen McLean of The McLean Collective, and we’re excited to share some insights from the experience.

Kathleen McLean’s expertise in equity, team building, and leadership development transcends traditional methods. Her approach focuses on fostering meaningful dialogue, challenging assumptions, and inspiring actionable change.

During our 5 sessions with Kathleen, our training journey encompassed key areas crucial for fostering diversity, equity, and inclusion.

  1. Implicit Bias and Microaggressions: Through engaging exercises and discussions, Kathleen guided us in exploring the subtle ways that implicit biases and microaggressions can manifest in our interactions. By raising awareness of these unconscious biases and their impact, we gained valuable insights into creating a more inclusive environment where everyone feels respected and valued.
  2. Engaging in Courageous Conversations: Kathleen encouraged us to step outside our comfort zones and engage in courageous conversations about DEI-related topics. By providing practical strategies for navigating difficult discussions with empathy and authenticity, she empowered us to address sensitive issues constructively and foster a culture of open communication and mutual understanding.
  3. What Does It Mean to Be a Good Ally?: Kathleen challenged us to reflect on what it truly means to be an ally to marginalized individuals and communities. Through thought-provoking discussions and real-world examples, we explored the importance of active listening, advocacy, and solidarity in supporting and amplifying underrepresented voices.

As the firm advances its DEI initiatives, our team deeply appreciates Kathleen McLean for her invaluable guidance, expertise, and steadfast dedication to catalyzing positive change. We are committed to building on the insights gained from our training session, integrating DEI principles into our firm’s operations, and striving towards a future where diversity, equity, and inclusion are not just aspirations but lived realities.
